You become the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Be careful who you allow into your peer group. They are influencing you. Make sure it’s in a positive way.
Philosophy
Tone down the cockiness
Lesson learned about what NOT to do as a salesperson. Don’t be quick to jump in to sound smart or to point out flaws in patients’ thinking. Meet them where they are and guide them. You don’t change people’s minds by showing them how wrong they are and how right we are.
Be doctors of CAUSE
Take the time to analyze your patients. Do a good consultation and a chiropractic exam, determine if they are even a candidate for chiropractic care, then decide on a plan of action. Don’t jump to a treatment based on symptoms only.
Don’t wrestle with pigs
When you run into trolls who want to start an argument – just walk away. Spend your time with those who genuinely want to learn, not with those who just want to get a rise out of you.
My Rant at CE 2016
Venting my frustration with the average chiropractor out there. Most of us are inspired and excited about chiropractic while in school, but some lose their fire and need to be reminded at seminars. Don’t be like them. Keep your fire burning!
When practice stress is overwhelming
When stress in practice becomes overwhelming, some chiropractors check out. Please understand what pressures there are out there in the real world – and if you’re already feeling the pressure in practice, please reach out to someone who can help. You’re not alone.
Don’t bring your baggage to the office
Your patients are looking to you for healing and support. And you need to give that to them, even if your world is falling apart around you. When possible – you need to check your baggage at the door and show up as the doctor and the healer in the office.
Hustle
Take advantage of your breaks
As I’ve said before – it’s what you do OUTSIDE of school that will make you a better chiropractor. Take some time during the break between classes to read, learn, shadow, practice, or anything chiropractic in order to make you a better chiropractor!
Accept it where you find it
Use objective criteria to find the subluxation. Then trust the criteria.
